Nobody ever thought that this guy from Pakistan will become one of the most decorated success stories of the modern age. You got it right. He is none other than Imran Khan. Imran Khan is the biggest success story as a Cricketer, as Humanitarian and now as Politician.
Imran Khan life is the biggest example of ‘Never give up”
As a Cricketer
Pakistan Cricket team was an average side in 80’s. When Imran Khan became a captain, this side able to defeat teams like Australia, India, England and West Indies in 80’s. In 80’s Imran Khan revealed in many of his interviews that he wish to win Cricket World Cup for Pakistan. Despite Imran Khan was at his career’s peak, Pakistan couldn't able to win the 87 world cup and they lost the semi final against Aussies. Imran Khan was emotional and instantly announced retirement from International Cricket. General Zia ul Haq who was President of Pakistan at that time requested Imran Khan to continue his cricket career.
Imran Khan was going through final years of his cricket but laid the foundation of strong side which dominated in the world of cricket in 90’s. He introduced cricketers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Moin Khan, Saeed Anwar and Inzamam ul Haq who later became world class cricketers. In 1992 WC when Imran Khan was physically not fit to play the tournament, he clinch the title and won with one of the most weakest side of the tournament. If you ask this question to any member of winning side of 92 team, he will instantly reply that it was only Imran Khan whose inspirational character helped to achieve this biggest milestone.
As a Humanitarian:
Imran Khan's mother Shaukat Khanum died in 1985 due to Cancer. This tragedy completely changed Imran Khan’s perspective in life and he aimed to build Cancer hospital in Pakistan. Imran Khan was being asked to collect atleast 64 Crore Rs in order to build a world class cancer hospital in Lahore. It wasn’t an easy task but he got massive support from not only Pakistan but from his friends in India as well. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Amitabh Bachan and other celebrities from Pakistan and India collected and raised funds for Imran Khan hospital in late 80’s and early 90’s. Imran Khan went to all provinces of Pakistan. You may not believe but some women in Pakistan sold her gold items for this noble cause. He achieved this milestone in 1994. It must be remembered when Imran Khan was going through difficult times in 2004, Indian actor Aamir Khan visited Pakistan for cancer hospital and raised tremendous amount of funds. Imran Khan with the help of Pakistanis and his Indian friends able to build cancer hospital in Peshawar and aiming for another one in Karachi. Some of his party workers are requesting to build cancer hospital in Quetta.
As a Politician:
This is probably most amazing and defining phase of Imran Khan’s life. Imran Khan started his political career in 1996 by founding Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf. At that time Pakistan Muslim League and Pakistan People’s Party had major stake in politics. Unfortunately Imran Khan couldn’t able to win single seat in his first election. There was huge laugh. Some of his friends advise that he should end up his political party and join mainstream political party but he refused.
Being a Imran Khan fan I admit that supporting Pervaiz Musharraf was one of his biggest mistake and he paid heavy price of it. In 2002 elections he only able to win his seat and it was huge set back for his party.
Due to his struggle as a politician, his wife Jemima Khan advised Imran Khan to quit Pakistan forever. Imran Khan couldn’t accepted his wife’s wish and that resulted at their separation in 2004.
At the time of Benazir Assassination, he was in opinion that all political parties should boycott the election however his offer was rejected by both PMLN and PPP. These parties participates and got heavy mandate in the federation.
If you look above, you will see Imran Khan considerably failed to have his impact on politics of Pakistan. In 2011 when Pakistan was internally and externally going through rough patch, Imran Khan meanwhile reorganized his party and emerged with slogans of fight against corruption and change. I somehow believe that his slogan of “change” was inspired by Barak Obama. Oct 2011 political rally in Lahore turned into a game changer in political career of Imran Khan where he able to bring some top notch names in his party notably Jehangir Tareen, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and Fawad Ch.
Despite Imran Khan’s popularity, his party only able to manage 35 seats in National Assembly in 2013. Imran Khan challenged the states queue system of Pakistan. He announced protests against rigging and corruption in 2014. His protested lasted for four months and that set new benchmarks in political history of Pakistan. All political parties stood against Imran Khan to stop his political wisdom.
If you are a person outside Pakistan let me tell you one thing that Pakistan top’s 3 media channels, 4 political parties and top notch liberals oppose Imran Khan at all forums.
And that guy didn’t gave up. Imran Khan throughout the years remain very active and organised his strength in KPK and Punjab. And what happened in 2018 is finest example of his political struggle.
And yes Imran Khan never give up.
