Microsoft Story

In 1975 Gates read an article in Popular Electronics' January which demonstrated the Altair 8800, Gates contacted MITS, the developers of the new microcomputer, to tell them that he and others were working on the platform's BASIC interpreter. Gates and Allen had no written code at all, they wanted to gauge MITS' attention. They met with the president of MITS and within a few weeks they had created an Altair simulator to demonstrate on a mini-computer and then the BASIC interpreter. The demonstration was a success that led to an MITS deal to distribute as Altair BASIC the interpreter.

To write a BASIC interpreter for the new IBM PC, IBM approached Microsoft, Gates directed them to Digital Research because they wanted an operating system, but the talks did not go well. So IBM representatives spoke around the talks with Gates and he proposed using SCP owned 86-DOS, an operating system close to PC-like hardware. Microsoft negotiated a contract with SCP to become the primary licencing agent, and later the full 86-DOS holders. Microsoft has given it to IBM as a PC DOS in exchange for a one-time fee of $50,000 after modifying the PC's operating system.

MS-DOS revenues have made Microsoft a major player in the industry. Despite the name of IBM on the operating system on the operating system, Microsoft was quickly identified by the press as very influential for the new computer. The computer has been named "Gates computer" by an industry expert On 25 June 1981, the corporation was restructured, Gates becoming the president and chairman of the board.

On 20 November 1985, Microsoft launched its first retail version of Microsoft Windows and concluded an agreement with IBM to develop a separate operating system called OS/2. The first version of the new framework was developed successfully by IBM & Microsoft but their relationship deteriorated due to creative differences

After then, Microsoft has been growing. Windows 10, Microsoft Office Suites, Office 365, Xbox, Outlook, Hotmail, software and hardware devices have been expanding, the list goes on. Everything started with the first idea and then they built on that.
